What is Jollo?

Jollo's vision is to enable global communication in real-time, across all languages.

Jollo's founders have lived and worked in Australia, Austria, China, Germany, the UK and the USA.

Who can use Jollo?

We created Jollo for anyone to use, but you will find the service particularly useful if you fit into one of the following categories:

• You need to translate something from one language into another, in a specific subject area
• You are interested in improving your written and listening skills in another language
• You are generally interested in learning other languages
• You are interested in meeting people from other parts of the world

How much does it cost?

Jollo's core community service is, and will always be, free. When we have more users we may introduce more services, including premium services, according to the feedback we get from our users.

How can I add a translation request?

You need to be a registered user in order to add a translation request. The following these steps:

• Click on "Add Translation Request" at the top tool bar, or "Translation Request" tab and click on "Add Translation Request"
• Fill out the form and optionally attached Audio to your request, and click submit
• Your translation request will stay in the "Translation Request" list until another user has translated it.
• You can check the status of your Translation Request by clicking on "My Activity" in your user profile. You can go to your user profile by clicking your own username at the top toolbar.

Each time you add a translation request to the site it will cost you points.

How can I translate something?

You may translate existing phrases or translation requests.

To translate an existing phrase click on a phrase in the "Phrase Book" tab and select "Add Translation", then fill out and submit the form. To translate a translation request you need to click on the "Translation Request" tab, select a request phrase and fill out the form.

Each time you add a translation to the website you earn points.

What are Jollo Points?

Jollo points are a method of keeping a balance between translators and people who need things translated. Everytime you post a translation request, it costs you a certain number of points.

Your initial Jollo point balance is 5000 when you register with Jollo.

You can earn Jollo points as follows:

1) By translating Phrases or Translation requests. Points are calculated based on the length of the translation, and which language you translate into. You earn bonus points if you translate something within 15 minutes, or 30 minutes of when the item was originally submitted. You also earn bonus points if you attach Audio to your phrase.

2) Simply by browsing Phrases. The more phrases you view, the more points you earn. This promotes site usage.

You spend your Jollo points as follows:

1) Submitting translation requests. Points are calculated based on the length of the translation, and which language you translate into.

Be aware that there are penalties if your translations are down-rated by a large number of users. The quality of your translations is very important.

Even though you loose points for adding translation requests, Jollo will remember the number of translation points you earned. Users with the highest numbers of Jollo translation points are listed on the homepage in recognition of their efforts.

How can I edit or delete a phrase or translation request?

How can I contact other users?

First you need to add a user as your friend:

• Click on your friend's username and select 'Add to Friends List'.
• Your friend will get notified of your request and must authorize you as a Friend.
• You can now send messages using the 'My Private Messages' function, located on the homepage on the left-hand side

Why does the first part of my translation get cut off?

This has been reported as a bug. We are in process of fixing it. As part of this bug the _first_ time you press REC your recording might be cut-off at the beginning. However when you press REC again it should work fine.

When I record audio how can I get rid of the pop-up that asks me whether to allow the application to record audio?

Right click on the audio player and select "Settings". Make sure 'Allow' is selected and then click the 'Always remember' check box.
